The reptile mind wants to expend as little energy as possible, so anything that allows us to do that will win, but at what cost? Are we smart enough to press pause and do the right thing, or is the pressure at work, on deadlines, and on getting things done going to make writing a thing of the past?

So true...leaning into the pleasure of creation can feel like a luxury, and it will take people who truly love their craft to keep it going. It makes me think of analogous creative activities--cooking big meals, sewing, building furniture -- that were once part of essential skill sets, and now are often outsourced or automated, or done primarily for pleasure.
